Subscription activated message via WhatsApp API

The scenario sends the customer a personalised WhatsApp template when a new subscription is activated.

Use case overview

The scenario sends the customer a personalised WhatsApp template when a new subscription is activated. The message includes the customer name, service name, payment amount, and activation date. A static URL button opens the subscription management page.

Template example

Hello, {{1}}! Your subscription to "{{2}}" for {{3}} is active as of {{4}}. Welcome aboard!

  • {{1}}

  • {{2}}
    service or plan name
  • {{3}}
    payment amount
  • {{4}}

WhatsApp Business API for subscription confirmation

When to use it

Reach for this scenario when billing or your subscription system confirms a new signup or first payment and the customer still needs proof that access is active on a channel they will actually see. It fits SaaS onboarding flows, membership programs that welcome new subscribers with plan details, and integrators wiring subscription billing webhooks into WhatsApp confirmations.

Fewer "is my access active?" support tickets
Four body variables carry customer name, plan, payment amount and activation date in WhatsApp, so the confirmation stays in the chat they check instead of a receipt email they ignore.
Reach customers outside the 24-hour window
Billing confirms activation before the customer has opened a WhatsApp chat, so an approved template is the only channel that can deliver the confirmation immediately.
One-tap subscription management
The static URL button in the template opens the subscription management page without asking support for a link — only the four body variables are sent via the API.
No manual confirmation work
The subscription system fires on activation, the template builds from billing fields, and delivery is logged back to billing or CRM.

Workflow

  1. Customer acts

    Customer completes subscription signup and billing confirms activation.

    user action

  2. Capture event

    The system resolves the customer phone number and subscription fields.

    phone: "+…"

  3. Build & send

    A personalised template message is built with four body variables and a static URL button.

    POST /sendTemplate

  4. Delivered

    The customer receives the WhatsApp confirmation and can open subscription details via the button.

    delivered

  5. Status tracked

    Delivery result is logged for billing or CRM follow-up.

Response and delivery status

HTTP 2xx and JSON "sent": true mean 1MSG accepted the message for sending — not that it already reached the customer's phone. Save the id field (looks like wamid.…) to correlate delivery callbacks.

200 OKResponse

  "sent": true,
  "message": "Sent to [email protected]",
  "description": "Message has been sent to the provider",
  "id": "wamid.HBgLMzgwNjM5..."
}
  • sent

    Accepted for sending — not yet on the customer's phone

  • id

    Store it; delivery callbacks and hookInfo are keyed on this
